ADAM ON TARGET – AT 13 !

Who is the youngest player to appear in the National League?

It’s doubtful whether anyone can beat the record of Bedford’s Adam Monico, who was just 12 when he made his debut in Division Two last season. Now, at the age of 13 years and four months, he has gone one better by recording his first goal – in the recent match against Invicta at Nottingham University.

Adam is not the only rising star of the Monico family. Brother Rohan, now 15, also played his first NWPL game for Bedford last year – and he scored in that match, too.

Rohan and Adam, sons of National League assistant secretary and Bedford player Steve Monico, both attend Bedford Modern School. They took lead roles when Bedford took third place in recent under-19 and under-14 National Schools’ finals.

Adam attended the national training camp at Millfield this summer and was voted best prospect by the coaches out of 35 lads. This is a particularly outstanding achievement as he is eligible for the same age group next year.

Two years ago, Adam played and scored in an international tournament in Germany in front of a crowd of more than a thousand. Since then, he has turned out as a guest for the Mannheim youth team in the same event, scoring most of their goals in the most recent tournament. Immediately afterwards, he flew back home - unaccompanied - to be met by coach Tim Whitwham at Heathrow and driven straight to the Millfield training camp

Well done Adam and Rohan! Bedford could well be grooming two GB internationals of the future!
