PLAYERS & COACHES MEETING : 8 FEBRUARY 2004

NWPL Chairman, Steve Monico, attended the meeting in Lancaster.

Nick Hume welcomed the 30 or so players and coaches present. He explained how there had been a detailed review of the training and competition structure, and that the implemented changes were considered necessary to help Water Polo achieve its aims. The emphasis of these changes is that the players will be expected to commit to a higher intensity of training, as was explained by Jerome Read, not only at national camps, but weekly.

It was highlighted that the 2004/05-year would be a training based year in order to raise the standards and make a successful re-entry into European Competition in 2007 a reality. It was made clear that there will be competition within the programme and that competitions such as the 2006 Commonwealth Championships would be included.

It was also emphasised that although the senior team had been set as born 1986 and older, there was no cut off age. Any of the older players that were prepared to participate in the training programme would be welcome and that the first step would be to ensure that any player who wished to be included in the programme should forward their intention to Norman Leighton at  envelope.gif (852 bytes) majorfoul@aol.com

The first planned sessions for the new Top Squad have been planned for the 6 & 7 March and information on the weekend would be distributed to those who had declared an interest in attending.
